We had a great Thanksgiving this year. My Mom came out again this year and we had Wanderson, Nathan, Daniel and Sutee over as well.  We had a lot of fun and everything turned out reasonably well.  But this little dog was unhappy for much of the time:

Because of this dog that came with my Mom who is noticeably younger and cuter than him.

Ashley hates her so much.  Rufus and even Mimi like her and play with her but Ashley gave her the stink eye the entire time she was here.  He's still a little steamed about it days later.

Mr. Poe did the bulk of the Thanksgiving cooking but I made a couple of things.  I made a potatoes anna which is the easiest thing to make so long as you don't follow Julia Child's instruction of taking an hour to arrange the potato slices artfully:

This is a bourbon soaked lemon pound cake.  I think it turned out pretty well and it was popular:

These are little chocolate puff pastry pastries and they are vegan.  I believe I ate five of them:

I made a fance french bread pudding but it didn't turn out quite as expected but it was still good.  Here's me setting it on fire:

Still burning:

I think we were all asleep by 8:30.  It was a long day.

Monday was a lot of walking and a lot of spinning and I felt pretty wrecked on Tuesday morning so I came into work on Muni.  I met up with Mr. Criss for lunch and then we went shopping after.  I noted that the Christmas Tree is going up on the Bank of America building:

After work I went to the Apple store to deal with some computer issues I'm having and then I went home. Mr. Poe had a doctor's appointment so I got us Chinese food for dinner.  After we went to bed.  I was really beat.

Monday was walk2werq Monday and I managed to get in 7.9 miles before work.  Which was kind of a lot.  I started by walking Mr. Poe to Muni and then headed through the haight (which was a little scary) and then went over lone mountain and over to the columbarium.  Then I headed over Laurel Hill and into Presidio Heights and then through Pacific Heights, Japantown, and over Nob Hill into work.  I went to a couple of places I'd never been and it was a fun walk.  After work I headed to my spin class and then home for dinner.

I had no idea this hospital campus was here. It's super modern:

Sunday I led a Different Spokes ride out to Cheese Factory.  We'd kind of intended to go further but the days are so short this time of year and we didn't want to ride in the dark so we cut it a little short.  Despite the recent rain it still looks very, very dry in Marin.  Please send rain.

When I got home, I noted that Mr. Poe had wrapped up one of the cakes I'd baked the day before.  Super fantastic and no not gay enough:

I got cleaned up and was in bed by 7:30.  It was bliss.

Saturday I was a bit of a wreck.  I did a lot of walking Friday night and I was definitely feeling that in the morning.  We ran errands in the morning and then Mr. Poe napped in the afternoon while I started cooking.  I made a couple of bundt cakes.  These are Bourbon Lemon Poundcakes that I've doused in more bourbon and then coated in lemon syrup.  They look so pretty!  I hope they're good:

I made some soup for my mom's visit and some onion marmalade for Thanksgiving dinner.  It's gonna be quite a week!

Friday, November 22, 2013

Friday I came into work on Muni in the morning and then went to a spin class at lunch.  The instructor was very new and really bad but she seemed nice and that's something.  After work I walked home in an epic 9.3 mile trek.  I walked over California and then down into Civic Center and then the Mission and then I headed over to Dolores Park and then into Glen Park and home via Diamond Heights.  It was a little much and I was super beat when I got home.  Mr. Poe was at a movie so my friend Anthony came over for a while.  It was late when Mr. Poe got home so we went to bed.

This is inside the Masonic Center Auditorium.  I had always thought it was a mural but it is, in fact a window.  Amazing:

This is the entrance to one of the buildings on Nob Hill.  Amazing:

Wednesday, November 20, 2013

We've gotten a big storm in the Bay Area this week and I've been off of my bike because of it.  I came into work on Muni on Tuesday and then went to a spin class over lunch.  After, I headed home on Muni because it was pouring down rain.  Wednesday I came in on Muni again and then headed home for lunch.  After work the weather had finally cleared and I walked home via Union Square, Japantown and Buena Vista Park.  My walk came in at about 5.1 miles.  Here's the view at Maiden Lane just around sunset:

I headed home for dinner and then worked late on my music collection on my computer.  It's almost gotten to the state where it's more of a music collection than an assembly of files.

Monday was walk2werk Monday and I had a great walk through Noe Valley, Diamond Heights, Glen Park, Sunnyside, Westwood Park and the Ingleside.  It came in at about 5.9 miles.  Most of the pictures I took were in Westwood Park.  Such a pretty neighborhood and such great views when then dog cooperates:

This is the first Christmas ornaments I've seen on a house.  And it can't come soon enough for me.

Our houseguests Tom and Art were sorting the dogs mid day so I went for another walk, this time through Chinatown, Russian Hill, Nob Hill and the Financial District that came in at 2.9 miles.  I got some nice pics of Chinatown:

These are the Green St steps heading up Russian Hill.  So pretty:

I headed into Grace Cathedral.  The exterior is amazing the interior is even better:

Thy have this gorgeous ribbon istallation in the nave that really has to be seen to be believed.  It's so pretty:

Outside in the cloiser:

These are some of the beautiful building across Sacramento St from the cathedral:

I headed back to work.  I went to a spin class after work and then headed home.  I was so beat it was a real struggle to stay up until 8.  Fun day!

Sunday, November 17, 2013

Friday I came into work on Muni and went to my spin class at lunch.  There was a sub and she was really nice so I had a good class.  After work I walked home via Mid Maket and Mission Dolores.  It came in at 4.7 miles.  I got home and hung out with Mr. Poe and we waited for our houseguests, Tom and Art to arrive.

Saturday I went to the grocery store with Mr. Poe in the morning and then attempted some gardening after lunch.  Then I went for a walk with Tom and Art out to Pacific Heights and dazzled them with the size of some of our mansions.  Then we headed home and had dinner and then we went to bed early.

Sunday I rode with my friend David out to Cheese Factory and back via Novato and we managed a pretty rapid clip.  We were out and back in seven hours with long stops in Fairfax and San Rafael and a short one at the Cheese Factory.  It was pretty chilly and we didn't have much company at the Cheese Factory other than some ducks:

We headed home and I got cleaned up and we had dinner and I was actually in bed at 7:15.  Which actually seemed a little late to me.

I headed home and went to bed.
