Sam, Youngran and the kids left on Monday and it took me a couple of days to recover.  Here's hoping the dogs and I have caught up on their sleep when they come back next summer!  I worked from home on Monday and Tuesday and then came into the office on Muni on Wednesday.  I went to my classes after work which KICKED MY ASS but we all have to pay the piper sooner or later.  Thursday I came into work on Muni and then walked home via Nob Hill, and Western Addition.  It was about 4.4 miles in total.  Not easy either.  I got a couple of pics:

I'm not sure when they did all this landscaping on Van Ness but it's holding up well and looks pretty nice:

I brought Mr. Poe a burger for dinner which he was pretty delighted about.  Then we went to bed.  Not and easy day.

Saturday afternoon Sam and I hitched a ride with the Smith Fangs to Costco and sorted the purchase of an iPad for his son.  Who knew he was getting one and wouldn't talk about anything else.  We ended up getting it at Best Buy which is the worst place on earth.  I hate it there so much that I'd rather pay more than have to put up with another pitch for their fucking extended warranties.  Which we had to even hear from the security guard as he checked our receipt when we are leaving.  We ended up walking home through the Mission and up the glorious Clarion Alley which has some amazing murals.  Apparently I'm part of the problem by suggesting that they cordon off the block and put in cafes.

Miss Smith and Daniel came over for dinner and Mr. Poe made pasta.  I made chocolate ice cream and this cake for dessert that night.  It's an upside-down cake that I made with fresh cherries and melted caramel candies (which I also made).   Sadly, the kids didn't seem bowled over by either of these things.  At least I'm trying.

I was totally by the time I made it to bed.  What a long day.

My brother and his family came in town on Thursday on route to Korea where they'll be living for a year because apparently my brother is the sort of person who gets fulbrights, a word I had to google to spell correctly.  Mr. Poe took the kids everywhere.  I did my best, but I'm only good for an hour at the Academy of Sciences as opposed to entire day.  I don't know how Sam and Youngran do it.  Children are exhausting.  Here's everybody on the rood of the Acadamey of Sciences:

We headed home after for dinner.  Bedtime couldn't come soon enough.

This was breakfast at the Horseman's Haven:

The red chile was delicious but the green made me sweat.   And was also delicious.  We headed into town after and waddled around Canyon Road:

Acequia Madre:

We had lunch with Athena and then I had to the airport.  I didn't have any trouble getting there and my flights were all on time.  I picked up a burrito on my way up to the house.  Mr. Poe and the dogs were waiting for me and we had had a good night's sleep.  I'm in town for the rest of the year.  You couldn't make me leave.

Sunday we headed up to Abiquiu and hiked to the top of Kitchen Mesa in the Ghost Ranch.  It's one of the most gorgeous hikes I've ever done and the payoff at the top is unbelievable.  From there we headed up to Taos where we went to the hot springs on the Rio Grande and narrowly avoided being molested by some amazingly drunk Indians.  Taos is a little over-rated.  There, I said it.  The town has crazy traffic and it seems to be lacking in terms of things to do or places to eat.  We came back to Santa Fe and had dinner at Gabriel's (again) and then went and hung out with Athena and her boyfriend.
