Sunday was Mr. Poe's birthday-- the happiest day of the year!  I don't know anybody who likes his birthday as much as Mr. Poe and I think he had a great day this year.

This is the breakfast he consumed:

After he slept breakfast off I walked him to M spa and he got a massage.  I went for a walk while he did that.  There's so much construction going on right now in San Francisco that it's hard to keep track of it all.  But Hayes Valley is almost unrecognizable to where it was a decade ago.   This house is being re-victorianed:

Some of the gorgeous homes on Fulton:

This building on 9th and Mission has seemingly gone up in a week:

Pretty tenements on McCoppin:

This is the pretty new park at McCoppin and Valencia:

Cobblestone streets off of Market--  I thought all of those had come out but no:

I went and collected Mr. Poe and we moved VERY slowly to the Sausage Factory which I hadn't been to in forever and is surprisingly good.  Then we headed home and went to bed.  Fun day!

I felt crappy and worked from home for the rest of the week.  I ended up skipping my friend Alvin's birthday party which was unfortunate but it was the better choice.  Here's Rufus wondering when I'm gonna get the hell off my ass and take him for a walk:

Mr. Poe opened his birthday present a day earlier.  I got him these lions to go in the garden.  The guy at the shop where I bought them at told me that they don't do that color glaze anymore because it was giving the potters cancer.  I love it:

Mr. Chris and David took us out for birthday dinners that night.  Here he is dancing with a feather boa.  CLASSY:

Mr. Poe:

We were home reasonably early.  Still we were beat and we went to bed early.

Tuesday I came into work down Market on my bike and then headed to the Asian Art Museum over lunch.  I think my favoritest part of that museum is the Indian stuff and I wasn't disappointed.  I hadn't noticed this relief of the hindu god Ardhanarishvar--  an androgynous combination of Shiva and his consort Parvati.  What's so neat about it is the way the feminine half of the relief has such different finish than the male to really drive home the dual aspects of the god:

This is a crazy beautiful carved door:

The blouse is made of fabric and ceramic.  Fabulous:

After work I headed off Pacific to Columbus to Stockton and stopped at Washington Square for pics of Sts Peter and Paul:

I continued on Stockton to North Point to Van Ness to Francisco to Octavia to Greenwich to Lyon and into the Presidio at the Lombard gate.  I headed over to Lincoln and then Washington and came out of the Presidio at the 15th Ave gate.   From there I took Lake to 23rd to Cabrillo to 47th to Fulton to the Great Highway where I stopped for pics of the gorgeous beach weather:

I went into Golden Gate Park at JFK and continued on that to Kezar to Page to Stanyan to Waller to Cole to Carmel to Clayton to Corbett to Ord and home for dinner.  After dinner I got cleaned up and I went to bed.

Monday was walk2werq Monday and I had a fun walk through Noe Valley and Bernal Heights that came in at about 6.4 miles.   This was the view from the hill at Duncan and Castro:

I love this sculpture in Guererro park.  It gives me pause because it seems to portable.  I'm guessing it's somehow bolted to the ground:

Views from bernal hill:

I got on BART at Balboa Park and headed into work.  I went home for lunch and then to the gym after work.  Which kicked my ass.  I limped home for dinner and then I went to bed.  I was beat.

Sunday, August 24, 2014

We all slept through the earthquake on Sunday morning.  I'm able to point to all the wine I'd consumed the evening before but I don't know why none of the dogs, Mr. Poe or our houseguests Brandon and Seoyoon didn't wake either.  I was supposed to go riding with David and Gordon on Sunday but Gordon lives in Napa and David went up to go help him clean up and I try not to do a lot of long rides out of town all by myself.  I got cleaned up and took the dogs on a long walk  through the Mission and Noe Valley that came in at about 4.6 miles.  It was Sunday Streets on Valencia and they were just starting to get set up when we were going through.  Mimi loves a stand that sells meat, let me tell you.

I headed home for lunch and then I went downtown and Mr. Criss and I took his dogs to Union Square.  Which is something I couldn't do with mine.  Mimi would shoplift.  Obviously.  Here's Sofi in Union square:

Me in Union Square:

I said goodbye to them and stopped in at my office to pick up the incredibly heavy present for Mr. Poe's birthday which is on the 31st.  I should have taken uber but instead took Muni which is not ideal for schlepping heavy packages back to the Castro.  When will I learn?

We had dinner and we went to bed early.  Mr. Poe's back at work.  I miss summer already :(.

Saturday I had planned on getting up early and going to spin but I couldn't get out of bed so I slept in until 10(!).  When I finally got it together, I cooked a few things for dinner and then Miss Smith came over to booze it up with me while we were waiting for the rest of the dinner guests.  Brandon and his wife stayed with us and Brandon is mysteriously able to pick up Mimi and not require an emergency room visit after.  Evidence:

I made some little onion pastries and also this cobbler.  It was a little light on the fruit but it looked pretty:

We went to bed early.  There had been a bit of wine.

Friday I actually managed to get a little ride in before work!  I headed off Corbett to Portola to Woodside to Dewey to Claremont to Portola to Santa Clara into Monterey to San Jose to Cesar Chavez to Bryant to 17th to Kansas to 16th to Terry Francois.  I stopped to take some pics of the glorious morning on the bay:

This is the marina at the Giants Stadium:

After work I headed off Pacific to Fillmore to Clay to Spruce to Washington to Arguello to Lake to Camino Del Mar and up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor where I stopped for pics.

I headed down to 34th to Cabrillo to 37th and into Golden Gate Park to Bernice Rodgers to MLK to the Great Highway and down the coast to Taravel to Dewey to Laguna Honda into 7th to Hugo to 3rd to Frederick to Cole to Carmel to Clayton to Corbett to Ord and home for dinner.  Mr. Poe was at a movie so I had to feed both myself and the dogs and we got cleaned up for bed.

I took the day off work because it was my birthday.  I slept in and then took the dogs out for a crazy stroller walk late morning.  We headed up over Clarendon and then Forest Hill and then made our way to the Rose Garden in Golden Gate Park and then home.  It came in at 7.3 miles.  When I got back we all had lunch and then the boys went to bed and I put Mimi back in the stroller and took her downtown on Muni.  She'd never been on the subway before and I wasn't sure how that was gonna go but she didn't mind it a bit.  She LOVED going downtown.  I took her to the ferry terminal and then dropped in at my office where she barked at my coworkers.  Then we headed home and waited for Mr. Poe to get home.  Then dinner and bed.  Long day.

This was the view looking west from Twin Peaks heading up towards Tank Hill:

San Francisco deserves a better rose garden.  There.  I've said it.

Tuesday was my 14th anniversary and I had a great day.  It's hard to believe how long Mr. Poe has put up with all of my fuckery.   I was up crazy early on Tuesday for some reason and hunt out with Mimi before work.  Here she is in her listening position:

I walked to work on Tuesday through the Western Addition, Japantown, Russian Hill and Telegraph Hill.  It was lots of fun and came in at about 6.2 miles.  The sun is starting to come up later and later and it was pretty gloomy on top of that so my pics are a little fuzzy.  This is the legendary Seattle Block.  So Victorianalicious:

These are some of the fabulous buildings in Pacific Heights on Pacific:

I went to spin class over lunch and then walked back to the Castro after.  I met Mr. Poe at the same Chinese place we'd eaten at over the weekend and it was equally good.  Then we headed home and I went to bed.  I had a wonderful anniversary.
